WANJU – The 12th annual seminar jointly organized by LOGODI and Tsinghua University’s School of Continuing Education (SCETU) is carrying out a series of sessions today at LOGODI’s headquarters in Wanju.
This year’s program focuses on the theme “Local Government Innovation and Sustainable Regional Development,” with an attendance of around 120 public officials and scholars from Korea and China. Dialogue is taking place in the areas of job creation and revitalization of local economies, strategies for balanced regional development, and ICT-driven government innovation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The discussions have presented an opportunity for the countries to share relevant cases and paths forward.
Each of the three sessions includes presentations by representatives from Korea and China, followed by panel debates led by a moderator. Korean speakers include the Vice Minister for the Interior and Safety and other senior officials from MOIS, the National Information Society Agency (NIA), the Korea Labor Institute (KLI), and local governments from Seoul, Gwangju, and Jeonbuk. A professor emeritus from Korea University is also present, with distinguished scholars from Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences comprising the speakers from China.
During the opening ceremony for the event, LOGODI President Park Byungho praised the 12 years of fruitful cooperation between his institute and Tsinghua University, through which this forum has connected leading experts on a broad range of issues toward the mutual advancement of Korea and China.
Before their return home, the Chinese delegation is scheduled to make study visits tomorrow to NIA and Samsung D’light, which showcases the latest products by one of the world’s foremost leaders in ICT.
The Korea-China seminar has been taking place every year since 2007, under the scope of an MOU established between LOGODI and SCETU in 2008. Locations alternate between the countries, with last year’s event on “Big Data and the Smart City” hosted by SCETU in Fuzhou.
