Korean officials take closer look at China

WANJU – LOGODI carried out a three-day program focused on current issues related to China, which concluded today after a total of twenty hours of lectures and other proceedings.
The “China Review” had been organized to aid in Korean officials’ comprehensive understanding of the country, toward the reinforcement of strategic bilateral cooperation. The objective coincides with Task 97 of the Moon Jae-in Administration’s “100 Policy Tasks,” which pursues increased diplomacy with the US, China, Japan, and Russia.
In attendance were 42 officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Defense Acquisition Program Administration, and metropolitan, provincial, municipal, county, and district governments and related institutions across Korea. As officials working with or for local governments, the participants now return to their jurisdictions with strengthened international capacity for subnational exchange with China.
Guest speakers were invited from the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Kyungnam University, and JoongAng Ilbo. Topics of discussion included strategies to attract local investment, Sino-North Korean relations, and Pres. Xi Jinping’s roadmap for China. On the second day, participants had the further opportunity to sit in on sessions of the 12th annual seminar jointly organized by LOGODI and Tsinghua University’s School of Continuing Education (SCETU), which focused on the theme “Local Government Innovation and Sustainable Regional Development.”
The event factors into a series of specialized programs on international matters hosted by LOGODI, following a three-day program dedicated to Korea’s “New Southern Policy” back in February. A third run of “Algo ISSUE? Gukje ISSUE!”—which covers hot topics facing the globe—is scheduled to take place in November.
