WANJU – A delegation of 18 local government officials from across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe have traveled to Wanju for a training program that starts today at LOGODI.

The “2018 Local Administration Development Program” is scheduled to take place over the next two weeks in Korea, with the objective to support the advancement of local administration in partner countries. Through lectures, seminars, a workshop, study and site visits, and cultural activities, LOGODI will share Korea’s experience in developing its system of public administration.

The heads, directors, managers, and other officials from metropolitan, provincial, state, regional, city, and sub-district governments arrived in the country yesterday. Collectively, they represent local governments in Cambodia, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kyrgyz Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Panama, Timor-Leste, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. Each of the participants’ local governments has a sister city partnership or cooperative friendly relations—or, are in talks to establish such—with a metropolitan, provincial, city, or district government in Korea.

One of the features of this program—which is planned, funded, and executed by LOGODI—is the International Workshop on Public Administration Development, organized this year by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). The workshop connects participants with their partners in Korea, and includes two to three days of meetings with mayors, vice-mayors, vice-governors, ambassadors for international relations, and other officials, along with introductions to best practice in the respective regions. This year’s event includes a “world café” to discuss country developments toward the sustainable development goals, or SDGs, and a symposium on SDGs in the Asia-Pacific Region.

LOGODI President Park Jae-min welcomed the participants at an opening ceremony, and expressed his hopes that each of them will use the program to develop ideas and strategies toward the further advancement of their own countries.

The program is slated for completion with a closing ceremony in Seoul Special Metropolitan City on Friday, October 26.
