WANJU – LOGODI has successfully carried out a three-day seminar on a diverse range of hot topics facing the globe, to prepare Korean officials to react and adapt to the current flow of change on the world stage.
This year's first of the series, titled "Algo ISSUE? Gukje ISSUE!" – a play on words that roughly translates to "Do you know 'em? International issues!" – took place from June 14-16 and was attended by 30 directors and below from central and local governments and employees of public enterprises across Korea.
The content of the program was thematically divided into the US, Europe, China, and the Middle East, to diagnose the major trends seen in each society and present ways to respond. Other focus included the international community's strategies for the Fourth Industrial Revolution as well as Korea's own way forward. Korean Section Head at Brigham Young University, Prof. Mark Peterson, also made a special presence to discuss Korean history from an outside perspective and tie these observations to current issues.
Over the total course of 20 hours, participants were immersed in discussions on subjects such as America in the Trump era; France's election and the fate of the European alliance; China's economy and the Belt and Road Initiative; and the Middle East as associated with terrorism and Islam. The six lectures concluded with groupings by regional interest, which allowed an opportunity for exchange, presentation, and debate.
The program was distinctive in that it featured a curriculum rarely touched on in such settings and established a forum between academic experts and public officials for direct communication on these pressing issues.
The second installment of the series for the year is scheduled to take place in late November.
