Korean government organizes 2017 EROPA GA in Seoul

SEOUL – The 2017 General Assembly and Conference of the Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration (EROPA), hosted by the Government of the Republic of Korea, has successfully come to a close today after a five-day series of meetings, plenaries, and sessions on shaping the future through the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The convention of ministers, policy makers, officials, and scholars across Asia and beyond was organized with the trilateral support of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), Ministry of Personnel Management (MPM), and National Human Resources Development Institute (NHI). Ministers Kim Boo-kyum of MOIS and Kim Pan Suk of MPM made the opening and welcoming remarks, respectively.
This year’s program revolved around the theme, “The Role of Public Governance in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: Transforming, Empowering, and Network-Building.” Presentations and debates were categorized into separate themes, tackling the issues of public sector transformation through institutional and policy innovation; empowerment of human resources and social capital toward quality public services; and network-building with public and private partners. Moderators included representatives from NHI, Korea Development Institute (KDI)’s School of Public Policy and Management, OECD, and others.
LOGODI was represented in the proceedings by a member of its International Training & Cooperation Division, who briefly introduced to a panel and its audience the institute and its activities, during a discussion on international training programs carried out by Korea. In the closing ceremony, EROPA’s Secretary-General, Mr. Orlando Mercado, stressed the necessity of transformation, empowerment, and networks for the survival of our own generation as well as those to come.
The following year’s event will take place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from September 16-20, 2018, the theme for which has been set as, “The Future of Public Administration: Managing Global Megatrends.”
