WANJU – The last round of the training program customized for Peruvian officials in public administration came to a successful close today with a farewell event at LOGODI.

This year’s delegation of 15 officials from Peruvian national, regional, municipal, and district governments, along with the National Authority for Civil Service (SERVIR), had arrived three weeks earlier for year three of the KOICA-sponsored “Capacity Development Program for Public Administration (Peru).”

LOGODI President Park Byungho hosted a farewell event to congratulate the participants for their achievements and present to them their certificates of completion. In his address to the now alumni, Pres. Park delivered his blessings for substantive improvement in intergovernmental cooperation among central and local governments in Peru, as guided by the action plans produced by the participants during their time in Korea. He also expressed confidence moving forward in the further strengthening of relations between the two nations.

Mr. Wilfredo Ponce De Leon, Chief of the Legal Affairs Office at the Parliament of Peru, responded with an expression of appreciation on behalf of his colleagues. Comparing a Peruvian news article on Korea from twenty years ago and another recently published, Mr. Ponce De Leon illustrated the transformation that has taken place in this country, and conveyed his hopes to see the same for his own.

The focus of this year’s training, with content on public security administration, disaster management, and Korea’s experience in development and public administration, was at the request of the Government of Peru. Its interest in these issues came in connection to its national development strategy and further influenced by increasingly extreme weather events such as earthquakes and El Niño.

Although the three-year program is now complete, LOGODI expects to continue its support of Peruvian officials, staying in close contact with its alumni in the country and SERVIR. The arrangement between LOGODI and SERVIR since September 2017 establishes a mutual aim toward exchange and cooperation in the education and training of public officials, and is LOGODI’s first MOU in Latin America.
