Global leaders in Europe to benchmark best practice in government policy initiatives

Global leaders in Europe to benchmark best practice in government policy initiatives

Wednesday, September 5, 2018

BERLIN – The 28 Korean local government officials in LOGODI’s Global Leaders Program are now in Europe, where they are meeting with experts from a selection of industries core to the nation’s government policy initiatives.

Departing on Sunday, the participants arrived in Berlin and met with entrepreneurs at Nomadic Green, which has managed the Princess Gardens project for “a new urban place of learning” since 2009. They also had exchanges with organizers at Messe Berlin—one of the world’s leading expo centers—and toured the construction site for IFA 2018, which plans to showcase the latest products and innovations for retailers, buyers, the media, and spectators from over 100 countries.

Before moving farther abroad, participants will also have discussions with German officials responsible for Plattform Industrie 4.0, a project by the federal government that aims to secure and strengthen the country’s international standing as a major manufacturer.

In Paris, scheduled destinations include Cites Unies France—a federation of 3,000 French local governments with international relations—along with social enterprises such as France Benevolat and GROUPE SOS, which support volunteers and work to find solutions to a range of social issues, respectively. In addition, the participants will take time to see the city’s museum for urban planning, Pavillon de l’Arsenal, and a park converted from old railway construction, the Promenade Plantee.

The participants will complete their term of study abroad in London, with stops at Social Enterprise UK, Korean-British start-up BRITCENT, the University of London—where they will have a special lecture on urban revitalization, and Remploy, a business that runs employment programs for the disabled and people with health conditions. Site visits to Hackney Borough, Tate Modern, and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will serve to show the city’s success with restoration projects, while trips to farmers’ markets at Covent Garden and Southwark will reveal the products of job creation in the local food industry.

The itinerary for this second overseas exchange by this year’s participants is tailored to respond to each of the research topics identified at the start of the 3rd Global Leaders Program. The participants completed their first trip abroad to cities across the US in June.
